The Peregrine Falcon Is the Fastest Animal on Earth

When a peregrine falcon spots its prey from high above, it goes into a characteristic hunting dive called a 'stoop.' During this dive, it can achieve speeds exceeding 320 km/h (200 mph), and some have even been recorded at over 386 km/h (240 mph). This incredible speed is aided by their aerodynamic body shape and powerful muscles. They use this speed to strike their prey, typically other birds, with a stunning blow.
