Sloths Have an Incredibly Slow Metabolism

Sloths are famous for their slow movements, which is a direct result of their extremely slow metabolism – the slowest of any non-hibernating mammal. Their diet of leaves is low in nutrients, so they conserve energy by moving slowly and digesting food over a very long period. A single leaf can take up to a month to pass through their multi-compartment stomach. They also have a low body temperature and spend most of their lives hanging upside down in trees.
