β¨Trivia
Coca-Cola Was Originally Green (And Served Hot)
The original Coca-Cola was green due to its ingredients and was initially marketed as a hot medicinal beverage, not a cold refreshing drink.
About this fact
When pharmacist John Pemberton invented Coca-Cola in 1886, it was green due to the natural color of its ingredients, including coca leaf extract and kola nuts. It was originally sold as a medicinal tonic and was often served hot like tea or coffee. The formula was promoted as a cure for headaches, nervousness, and exhaustion. The dark caramel color we know today was added later for marketing purposes, and it wasn't until the early 1900s that Coca-Cola became primarily known as a cold, carbonated beverage.
