Elephants Are Afraid of Bees
Despite their massive size, elephants flee from bees and have a specific alarm call to warn other elephants of bee swarms.
About this fact
Elephants have a deep-rooted fear of bees, which might seem surprising given their enormous size. However, bees can sting elephants around their eyes, inside their trunks, and other sensitive areas where their thick skin offers no protection. When elephants hear the buzzing of bees, they will often flee immediately. They even have a specific alarm call that means 'bees are coming' to warn other elephants. This fear is so strong that some African farmers use beehives as a natural deterrent to keep elephants away from their crops. The sound of buzzing bees is enough to make even the largest land mammal run away.
